Two killed in a missile strike in Poland: Why is the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war worrying the whole world?

RUSSIA UKRAINE CRISIS: Two Polish citizens were killed after a missile landed in eastern Poland, about 15 miles from the country’s border with Ukraine. This is the first confirmed instance of the war in Ukraine causing direct casualties in another country.

So Russia is now attacking Poland?
The circumstances of the explosion are not clear. It is also not known who fired the missile and from where.

A statement from the Polish Foreign Ministry initially said that the missile was made by Russia. President Andrzej Duda first told reporters that it was “probably” Russian-made and its source was still being verified.

“We are working quietly. It’s a difficult situation,” Andrzej Duda told reporters. He said Poland is increasing the level of its military preparedness.

Later, however, US officials told The Associated Press that Ukrainian forces fired the missile at an incoming Russian missile.

So it was Ukraine’s missile?
President Joe Biden, who is in Bali for the G-20 summit, said preliminary information suggests the explosion may not have been caused by a missile fired from Russia.

Biden pledged “full U.S. support and assistance” in the Polish investigation and “reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to NATO.” He also called an emergency meeting of Group of Seven and NATO leaders in Indonesia to discuss the situation in Poland.

Biden also said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is meeting with ambassadors of NATO countries in Brussels.

What did Russia say about missiles in Poland?
Russia has denied the missile launch. Russia’s Defense Ministry called the reports “a deliberate provocation aimed at worsening the situation,” Reuters reported. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he had no information about the explosion in Poland.
