Spyeare Pegasus has hacked the phones of several Indian opposition ministers and journalists. De Wire’s report claims that the company hacked the phones of journalists from several major media outlets, including The Hindustan Times, India Today, Network Eighteen, The Hindu and the Indian Express.
In addition to ministers and journalists, the list of phone hacking includes businessmen, government officials, scientists and social workers.Most of the hacking activities were carried out between 2018 and 2019. The Wire report further states that the hacking list includes more than 40 journalists, including three opposition leaders, who hacked the phones of two Union cabinet ministers.
However, the Modi government has denied the hacking allegations and counter-claimed that the allegations against the government for phone hacking were baseless.
After 2019, Israeli software Pegasus made headlines. On Sunday morning, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy alleged that Pegasus had hacked the phones of Supreme Court judges. Moreover, the organization has also hacked Modi’s cabinet members and RSS leaders.
