On Monday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee commented on the incident of rape and the death of a teenage girl in Hanskhali. Director Srijit Mukherjee wrote on Facebook in the wake of his remarks at the inaugural ceremony of Biswabangla Premises. He described Mamata’s remarks as “insensitive” and “offensive” on Facebook.
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Nadia’s Hanskhali. The girl later died. The Chief Minister said that it was too late to lodge a complaint in this regard. He also questioned the veracity of the allegations. In that context, Srijit wrote, “The kind of offensive and insensitive remarks made by the Chief Minister in the case of Hanskhali’s rape is unimaginable.” The director wrote that he was “shocked and speechless”.
Mamata commented on the incident of Hanskhali at the inauguration ceremony of Biswabangla premises last Monday. He questioned whether the incident was rape or not. “Would you call it rape, would you call it pregnant, or would you call it a love affair … Was the body bad or was someone caught?” I told the police what happened? Mamata also expressed doubts as to why it was five days late to lodge a complaint in Hanskhali. “The girl died on the 5th,” he said. The complaint was lodged on the 10th. If there is a complaint, then why didn’t you lodge a complaint 5 days ago? ”
Opposition leaders have been vocal in their opposition to Mamata’s remarks. Criticism of the issue also started through the net. Controversy has also started over this Facebook post created on Monday night.
