He had to leave home with his newly married wife. Sujan Mal, a resident of Sreepur village of Nalhati police station in Birbhum, made such a complaint. He alleged that the people of his wife’s house refused to accept the marriage as he is a Hindu. Sujan further complained that the in-laws were torturing them. They have even been driven out of the village. He claimed that he had written a letter to the police station about this, but it was not addressed.




Sujan and Razia Khatun from Sreepur village had a long love affair. They got married on June 25. But Sujan complained that Razia’s family is unwilling to accept the marriage. “Her (Razia) father, mother and relatives are torturing us,” said Sujan. Not allowing us to enter the village. I have written a letter to Nalhati police station. There is no help. “




Riya has changed her name after marriage. “I am an adult,” she said. “We got married voluntarily. My name is Riya Mal now. Some of my family and villagers are torturing us for marrying Sujan. I also informed the police. But the police are not taking any action. My family wants to kill us”




Sujan and Razia have left their home from Nalhati and taken shelter at a relative’s house in Rampurhat. He has lodged a written complaint at Rampurhat police station.
