New Zealand’s Devon Conway breaks world record

Devon Conway

Devon Conway broke the precedent of Sourav Ganguly and Ranjit Singhji in the first innings. The New Zealand batsman broke another precedent in the second innings. He set the record for most runs as an opener in his debut Test. Kepler Wessels of South Africa broke the world record.

Conway was dismissed for 200 in the first innings. He scored 23 runs in the second innings. He has scored 223 runs in two innings. Wessels scored 218 runs in two innings against England in 1982. He scored 162 in the first innings and 46 in the second innings.

Conway is fifth in terms of runs scored in the inaugural Test. At the top is Lawrence Rowe of the West Indies. He scored 372 runs against Australia in 1972. Conway has scored the most runs in his debut Test for New Zealand. Matthew Sinclair’s example is broken. Sinclair scored 214 in his debut Test against the West Indies in 1999.
