Actor Soumitra Chatterjee passes away at the age of 86. After a long struggle in the hospital, the veteran superstar of Bengali film, actor-playwright-bachikashilpi-poet-painter passed away. He breathed his last at 12:15 pm on Sunday at Bellevue Nursing Home in central Kolkata.
Soumitra’s last rites were performed at Keoratala crematorium in the evening. Before that the body was lying in Rabindra Sadan. The body was taken from there to Keoratala. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Biman Basu, Raj Chakraborty, Dev, Kaushik Sen and many others took part in the last walk. Earlier, the body was taken from Bellevue Hospital to Golfgreen’s home. At the end of all, Saumitra’s last rites were performed on the evening.
Soumitra was admitted to Bellevue in September after contracting the novel coronavirus. He also had cancer at one point. That illness did not leave him completely alone. As a result, sometimes improvement and sometimes deterioration, the life of the hospital-prisoner Soumitra was going on in this swing. However, doctors tried to save the actor in various ways including plasma therapy and respiratory surgery.
But on Friday, Soumitra’s condition worsened. Heart and kidney complications increase a lot. Increases ‘heart rate’. All limbs lose function. Doctors said it was impossible for Soumitra to recover without a miracle. After that, a shadow of anxiety descended on the fans.
Soumitra’s family members reached the hospital in the morning. After a while they left the hospital. But after a while they were called back to the hospital. However, Soumitra’s daughter Paulmi did not agree to open her mouth about her father’s situation at that time. When contacted by phone, he said, “There will be an official announcement about the father’s health. We will comment on that after that. The doctors told us to stay there. ”
Shortly afterwards, the hospital authorities informed that the eighty-year-old actor had died. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already reached Bellevue. She confronted the media there with Paulmi. Poulami told “I’ll take Dad to Golfgreen’s house first at 2pm,” Paulmi said. After that I will take it to Rabindra Sadan as Technician Studio. From there we will leave for Keoratala crematorium.
