Soumitra Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan

After the death of Soumitra Chatterjee, Amitabh Bachchan also shared his memories like everyone else.  He remembers the last meeting with Soumitra in Calcutta.  Calling Soumitra a “iconic legend”, Amitabh wrote, “One of the mightiest pillars of the Film Industry has fallen …”.  They were last seen during the film festival in Kolkata.  He wrote about that day on Twitter.

Another Bengali is not in a good mood.  About 15 years ago, Rahul Bose starred with Soumitra in Aparna Sen’s ’15 Park Avenue ‘.  Then he did not make too many Bengali films. The moments spent with the legendary actor while working together have not faded in the mind of the actor yet.  He tweeted, “I grew up watching his films day after day.  So working with him in #15ParkAvenue was surreal.  He answered all my questions on how it was to work with #SatyajitRay with generosity and warmth. It’s been a privilege, Soumitrada. Rest in peace.”

From Tollywood to Bollywood, the actor was friends with everyone.  To some he is ‘Soumitra Jethu’, to others he is called ‘Soumitrada’.  Shabana Azmi is just such an actress.  Today, turning the page of memory, she can see the past days of ‘Soumitrada’.  She once met the actor in Paris.  The actress still remembers how much the Bengali actor was appreciated at the ‘George Pompidou Center’ there.  But even after that, Shabana seemed to be fascinated by his indifference.

Farewell Soumitra Da.I had the honour of playing your wife in La Nuit Bengali n your daughter in 15 Park Avenue.I was with you in Paris and saw the adulation you received at George Pompidou Centre but you were so nonchalant about it that it left me deeply https://t.co/4fQS7NdVFW pic.twitter.com/JEezV23z0k
