The health ministry said on Sunday that there were specific guidelines on how to deal with any physical problems after the vaccination. Doctors, nurses and health workers have been trained accordingly. Symptoms of side effects include a slight swelling at the injection site, a slight drowsiness or a tendency to allergies.

A few people had to be hospitalized. The ministry has identified them as ‘serious’. Three of the 448 were hospitalized. Two of them have been released from AIIMS and Railway Hospitals in Delhi. Another is under observation at Ames Rishikesh Hospital.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine Covishield was produced in India by the Serum Institute. The Indian company has developed ‘Kovacin’. India has approved the use of these two vaccines on an emergency basis.
